Grant :verified_root:<p>Using an esp8266, 2 toggle switches, and Esphome I build a box that I can use to enable and disable different automations in home assistant. </p><p>For example I use a door sensor on my 3 year olds bedroom door to trigger an alert to my phone at night if he gets up and leaves his bedroom. The problem is if my wife or I open and close his door after we get up with him I continue to get alerts. Now I can simply toggle them off and on. </p><p><a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> <a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/esphome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>esphome</span></a></p>
Grant :verified_root:<p>So I may have gone way over the top building my home automation and security. I just finished upgrading my alarm panel with one that is HomeKit compatible and integrated it into home assistant. I also did some new integration from blue iris to home assistant for my AI alerts. If it's not the most secure house around I don't know what is. <a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a></p>
rēd ⭐<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>arstechnica</span></a></span> ...think about how outrageous this is: the piece of hardware that YOU paid for, sitting at YOUR place, connected to YOUR PAID internet service, collecting YOUR footage at YOUR place, needs an EXTERNAL cloud-paid subscription! Seriously, if they try to argue that some kind of fancy, advanced 'cloud-app' or some sort of essential, critical 'cloud-component' is needed for all of it to work, they're FOS! De-Cloud yourself, learn about on-premise solutions like <a href="https://mstdn.plus/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> ! 🥊🔴</p>
Grant :verified_root:<p>You know your high class when you have your espresso machine connected to a smart plug in home assistant so that it turns on in the morning and warms up. </p><p><a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a></p>
Grant :verified_root:<p>The Hubspace socket seems to work. The response time from home assistant to the Hubspace account seems fine but the icon in home assistant showing it on or off is a little buggy. But the integration doesn't show the socket as officially supported so I can't complain, especially for a 50 cent purchase. </p><p>I had to load this repo into the HACS addon to make it work. <a href="https://github.com/jdeath/Hubspace-Homeassistant" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/jdeath/Hubspace-Hom</span><span class="invisible">eassistant</span></a></p><p>Also this integration relies on a connection to the Hubspace cloud to work so that's the other down side. </p><p>My other purchase today was 2 more Wiz light bulbs and I've actually really liked these so far. There all wifi connected and the Home Assistant integration controls them locally so you don't have to use the Wiz account after setting them up. </p><p><a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> <a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeautomation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeautomation</span></a></p>
Grant :verified_root:<p>My local Home Depot had these smart light sockets for 48 cents. I'm guessing it was priced wrong. I've never seen one before but they could be fun to try out and see if they integrate into home assistant </p><p><a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> <a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeautomation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeautomation</span></a></p>
Grant :verified_root:<p>This is annoying. My just just refused to be an even temp <a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a></p>
Scott<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.world/@smarthomejunkie" class="u-url mention">@<span>smarthomejunkie</span></a></span> I kinda regret switching to Eufy products. Since the updates after the security issues with their cameras, the app has become pretty clunky and the integration with <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/HomeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HomeAssisant</span></a> isn&#39;t wonderful.</p>
Andy Jones-McGuire<p>So what have I been up to over the weekend. Well - </p><p>I finally found a use for my <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/RaspberryPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RaspberryPi</span></a> and the official 7" touch screen. It is now running <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/WeatherFlowPiConsole" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeatherFlowPiConsole</span></a>. But to save electricity costs, <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/homeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeAssisant</span></a> will send an mqtt command when <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/Frigate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Frigate</span></a> detects a person in the livingroom. Which <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/NodeRed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NodeRed</span></a> will intercept and run a script to turn the display on and start the program. 30 minutes after presence was last detected HomeAssistant will send an mqtt message to turn the display off and -</p>
Grant :verified_root:<p>My print is going well though. Had to redo it because I ran out of filament the fist time. I love that I can monitor it from home assistant </p><p><a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/3dprint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3dprint</span></a> <a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a></p>
Scott<p>Today I installed a Minka Aire Twist ceiling fan. I bought it specifically for it&#39;s Smart by Bond (the same people that make a controller to make &quot;dumb&quot; fans &quot;smart&quot;) functionality. Got it up in running in <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/HomeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HomeAssisant</span></a> in no time. </p><p>Now my office fan turns on/off based on temp &amp; occupancy.</p>
Scott<p>Ugg. The <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/HomeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HomeAssisant</span></a> 2023.2 update told me that my MariaDB instance (the default Synology version) has a performance regression and recommended updating. Of course, the Synology version is out of date...</p><p>Now MariaDB is running in Docker, which is probably for the best.</p>
Scott<p>Yesterday I decided to point my <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/HomeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>HomeAssisant</span></a> install at a MariaDB server on a new NAS I&#39;d recently set up. I&#39;d noticed that automation traces were really slow to load. On the new server, they&#39;re super fast. </p><p>Today, I went back to my old database to drop the Home Assistant database and discovered that my states table had over 4.5million records. </p><p>I guess purging wasn&#39;t working! Keeping an eye on that from now on...</p>
Scott<p>Yet another reason to hate Apple. </p><p>The home automation industry has been working for years on a standard for interoperability of platforms. Leave it to Apple to add a proprietary layer to an open standard. <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/iot" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>iot</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/homeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>homeAssisant</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/thread" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>thread</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/matter" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>matter</span></a></p>
Ryan Snook<p>Just posting my permanently installed <a href="https://social.seattle.wa.us/tags/wled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wled</span></a> lights I put up a couple years ago. Matthew Booth<p>I get the impression <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> doesn't really want me running in a container. No add-ons feels like a deal breaker. I'm sure I could make it work, but it doesn't seem worth the effort. Going to try running Home Assistant OS in a VM instead.</p>
