Badger AF (he/him) DEMOCRACY<p>A woman in this documentary recently passed away. Her name was Judith Heumann and she was one of the driving forces being the Americans with Disability Act. </p><p>She attended this camp in the 1970s that reminded me so much of Camp Algonquin. They made a movie about the camp and those who attended. It's such a great movie.</p><p>You could tell that she was going to change the world.</p><p>And she did.</p><p>It's on Netflix - here's the trailer for it: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRrIs22plz0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=XRrIs22plz</span><span class="invisible">0</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/ADA" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ADA</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/JudithHeumann" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JudithHeumann</span></a></p>
Amadi Lovelace<p>Today was the funeral service for <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/JudithHeumann" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JudithHeumann</span></a>, the activist aptly named as the “mother of the <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/DisabilityRights" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DisabilityRights</span></a> movement.” Judith firmly believed that there was no aspect of American life that should be inaccessible to any person who wished to be a part of it. </p><p>The policy at the in-person service this morning was “<a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/masks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>masks</span></a> are optional, but encouraged.”</p><p>This cavalier and senseless policy at an event w/so many sick &amp; disabled attendees is a dagger to the heart of Judith’s life’s work.</p>
Amadi Lovelace<p><a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/JudithHeumann" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JudithHeumann</span></a>, the mother of the American <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/disability" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>disability</span></a> rights movement, has died. It is safe to say that without her advocacy we would still be waiting for all of the legislative and regulatory progress that protects our rights and access to schools, workplaces and public accommodations. </p><p>May her memory be for a blessing and a revolution. </p><p><a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry/judith-heumann-obit-disability-rights-movement_n_6403ca28e4b029d870168df0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">huffpost.com/entry/judith-heum</span><span class="invisible">ann-obit-disability-rights-movement_n_6403ca28e4b029d870168df0</span></a></p>
Katie Hauschildt<p>Summing up my day:<br>From <a href="https://critcare.social/tags/JudithHeumann" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JudithHeumann</span></a> memoir: Saying something is expensive, unsafe, or impossible pushes you down a rabbit warren of arguments… it distracts from the issue that when something is a civil right we must have ingenuity.<br>From the <a href="https://critcare.social/tags/NationalCivilRightsMuseum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NationalCivilRightsMuseum</span></a>:<br>DID THE MARCH SUCCEED?<br>…The march was a remarkable moment that offered America a vision of a better society. But it was only a single day in the African American freedom struggle.<br><a href="https://critcare.social/tags/Memphis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Memphis</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/bookstodon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>bookstodon</span></a></span></p>
