Oh really it was Ukraine that took down X on March 10? Not so fast.
Independent security researchers found evidence that some X origin servers were not properly secured behind DDoS protection, and researchers noted they did not even see Ukraine in the breakdown of the top 20 IP address origins involved in the attacks. https://www.wired.com/story/x-ddos-attack-march-2025/ #X #Musk #DDoS #cyberattack #cybersecurity #security #Ukraine #BotNet #Internet
It was on this day 36 years ago when @timbl submitted his proposal to CERN for an "information management system", precursor to the World Wide Web.
"In the proposal, Berners-Lee modestly spoke of wanting to use hypertext, a.k.a. links, to help CERN deal with information storage issues.

His boss’s response?
“Vague, but exciting.”"

Elizabeth "Jake" Feinler, the original #DNS woman and "mother" of Whois, played a pivotal role in shaping the #Internet. Ahead of her virtual appearance at the #ICANN82 DNS Women session on 11 March, watch this roundtable with Jake, her team, and former #ICANN Board Chair, Steve Crocker, to hear what the Internet was like before it became part of our everyday lives: http://go.icann.org/3DsTDlF
Good. I completely support acts of online vigilantism. My position is and always will be that if you don't want people to do things like this, then pass better laws that address the issue people are taking upon themselves to fix.
Think of it this way, if it's illegal to DoS an ISIS website, then that law should be broken. Likewise, Musk is a violent oligarch. Truth Social should also be a target.

Online ID checks are not actually about child safety. They will enable censorship of content that conservative politicians disagree with + create barriers for vulnerable people to be able to use the #internet. Tell your lawmakers to reject any legislation that requires websites to use government ID or AI biometric technology to limit users or access at #stoponlineidchecks.org
When it comes to search, why can't we use quote marks to find specific text anymore? At least in the U.S., search has become atrociously bad. Even within a particular website like Inc.com the search is broken. No ability to sort by publication date. Finding a particular headline doesn't work. Just garbage
So this isn't a matter of material volume/processing load, but enshittification thanks to capitalism?
this is it, folks! we are in the final week before submissions are due for GOOD INTERNET, a new print periodical magazine about all the things that make the #web fun: things like the #smallweb, the fediverse, the #indieweb, and efforts to actively fight #enshittification. submissions are open until MARCH 15.
check the submission guidelines or sign up for email alerts to be notified when we publish in may!

if this is your first time hearing about this, you still have enough time to come up with and write an article or complete a digital #art piece, if you're passionate about the #internet and want to write about it! :) bloggers, it's your time to shine!~
i can't wait to show y'all the incredible stories that have been submitted from all over the 'net, and some of the coolest art i've seen about the web!
thank you to everyone who's been so supportive of this project already. this is why this side of the internet is amazing. please boost, if you can; i want to make sure i did everything i could to include as many diverse voices as i can.
thank you!

Live in a country that doesn't censor the net?
You can run a snowflake proxy for those living under strict Internet censorship and allow them to gain information and knowledge that their government forbids.
Help keep the internet free for all.

"The key to [Beverly Hills Internet]'s initial growth over 1995 was helping people who had no technical knowledge of HTML to build a web page on the internet. It offered a “Personal GeoPage Generator” that enabled homesteaders to easily create a home page.
But more than that, and as the name for its users implied, Bohnett wanted to give people the sense that they had a home on the internet."
@smallcircles someone could start selling an all-in-one appliance, like a WiFi router with a built-in mail server, ActivityPub server, XMPP server, #Forgejo server, and #Drupal server all rolled into one. Then instead of recommending people “roll their own,” you could recommend people just buy this device, and use it to connect to #ActivityPub, #XMPP, and publish their own blog with the built-in Drupal server, and so on.
