Deborah Pickett<p>It was much fun recording and producing "Leave the Light On" from <a href="https://old.mermaid.town/tags/ComfyCollaborations" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ComfyCollaborations</span></a> <a href="https://music.futzle.com/comfy-collaborations/2/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">music.futzle.com/comfy-collabo</span><span class="invisible">rations/2/</span></a></p><p>I've never produced music with someone else's vocals before. In ways it's a bit constraining because I have to work with the recording I've got, but it's a good challenge to work within constraints sometimes. Aelyth's mezzo-soprano was perfect for this song, just what I imagined when I wrote it. If you want to hear more of her voice, go check out sideSister at <a href="https://sidesister.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">sidesister.com/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> and follow band member <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://musician.social/@elsemusic" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>elsemusic</span></a></span>.</p><p>It was also wonderful as always to work with <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://aus.social/@jimbob" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>jimbob</span></a></span> who knows exactly the kind of bluesy guitar work I love. I shamelessly comped together five of his ad-libs for that instrumental. If you want to hear more of his music, he's on Bandcamp at <a href="https://milford.bandcamp.com/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">milford.bandcamp.com/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>I splurged during the November sales and bought Audio Modeling's SWAM Saxophones audio plugin (<a href="https://audiomodeling.com/swam-engine/solo-woodwinds/swam-saxophones/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">audiomodeling.com/swam-engine/</span><span class="invisible">solo-woodwinds/swam-saxophones/</span></a>). This is an amazing VST for synthesizing saxophones, with so many dials to give the sound a natural feel. If you listen carefully you can even hear where I've pitch bent almost every note.</p><p>This song has been earworming me since I wrote it in November. If you attended my A Christmas Wasted With Deb Pickett show in December you have seen a rare performance of me doing my own vocals on the song. Fortunately now, the earworm has given way to, variously, every other song that's on the Comfy Collaborations album.
