They’re killing people and in many cases taking away their fertility. </p><p>This is cruelty. It’s not about life. It’s not about babies. It’s about controlling women. This is a war on women & reproductive healthcare. </p><p>“Carpenter did nothing illegal: New York is shield state that protects abortion providers & allows them to mail abortion meds without fear of prosecution”</p><p>I can’t stress this enough… if you’re able to stock up on abortion pills, plan B or oral contraceptives… now’s the time. </p><p>If you’re certain you don’t want to get pregnant, look into getting your tubes tied or an IUD placed. </p><p>Stop using period trackers. Encourage your friends to stop as well. </p><p>Even if you aren’t worried about your own reproductive health, by being prepared you may be able to help someone in need. </p><p>Lastly if you DO help someone end a pregnancy… No you didn’t. You helped them move. Or visit their aunt. Flipboard Culture Desk<p>Cecile Richards, former Planned Parenthood president and feminist activist, has died of an aggressive brain cancer at age 67. She entered politics as a teenager, working on a campaign to elect Sarah Weddington, the lawyer who fought Texas' abortion ban in Roe v. Wade, to the state legislature. She continued to work as an activist and reproductive rights advocate all her life, most recently helping launch a chatbot that provided information about where and how people could terminate their pregnancies. Broadwaybabyto<p>South Carolina GOP Senators have put forth a fetal personhood bill that would make it possible to charge women who get abortions with homicide. </p><p>In a State that has the death penalty. </p><p>It’s not very “pro life” to introduce a bill that lets government kill the mother. </p><p>Please - oppose these draconian bills. Fetal personhood has repercussions that most people don’t even consider. </p><p>This isn’t “just” about abortion. It’s about gaining total control over women. Broadwaybabyto<p>In Alabama - where there’s a total abortion ban - the rate of infant mortality is skyrocketing. </p><p>“It spiked to 7.8 deaths per 1,000 live births – up from 6.7 in 2022 – with 449 newborns dying before reaching their first birthday”</p><p>Lawmakers seem to only care about the fetus until its birth (if they ever cared at all).</p><p>Once the baby is born - they couldn’t care less what happens to it (or its mother). </p><p>People are being forced to carry pregnancies they can’t mentally, physically or financially handle. They aren’t given proper pre-natal care. Many can’t access care at all. </p><p>What possible benefit is there to forcing people to carry babies to term - only to let them die soon afterwards? </p><p>You’re risking the life of the mother AND baby unnecessarily - and then you turn around and claim to be “pro life”</p><p>These bans are the opposite of pro-life.</p><p>They’re costing lives. They’re causing untold amounts of trauma. They can also cause medical emergencies that impact a person’s future ability to get pregnant. </p><p>They can disproportionately harm disabled people who may have additional reasons for not being able to safely carry a pregnancy to term </p><p>They can also result in people becoming trapped in abusive relationships and situations - because they are too sick/pregnant to leave.</p><p>Abortion IS healthcare.
