Almost broke my #TargetBoycott today because I needed a belt and filters for the vacuum I bought there years ago. They still sell the same vacuum, but none of the replacement parts, all those are online only from #Target. So I left, drove ten miles to a vacuum and sewing place and got the belt at least. I know where my next vac is coming from.

How's everyone doing one week into the #Target #boycott? From my household to yours, some ideas if you're looking to boycott beyond Lent/permanently:

1. I looked at my account to do some analysis of last year's purchases. Now I know how to divest 95%+ of my past Target purchases going forward :)

2. Theirs is the most useless rewards program so it will be trivial to kill my account and take better shopping privacy measures. Boycotts can also encompass user data :)

- Try to boycott #Google, there are other search engines. #SergeyBrin, co-founder of #Alphabet, which owns Google, #Gmail, #Android, and #YouTube. #DuckDuckGo, for example, has been recommended by a supporter.
- Boycott #Apple Products! #TimCook, CEO and major shareholder of Apple, donated to Trump’s inauguration and is reported to have developed a "personal relationship" with Trump.
- Don’t shop at #Walmart! Walmart, owned by the ultra-rich #Walton family, pays its employees so poorly that many of them are on food stamps.
- Don’t shop at #Target! Target, which has stopped selling #LGBTQ merchandise due to right wing pressure."

"The 'Target Fast' coincides with Lent... Bryant and other Black faith leaders have voiced their frustration with Target, they said, for reneging on a $2 billion promise to invest in Black-owned companies by the end of 2025. "
Target’s decision to scrap its DEI initiatives came after Trump issued executive orders cracking down on such efforts just 48 hours into his second term in office.

As a long-time Red Card holder I've not spent a cent at #Target since they made their loud-and-proud announcements to halt all DEI initiatives at the company. I invite you to join me in doing the same (even beyond 40 days, you can get everything at Costco anyway):

40-day. #Target #Boycott starts today
‘But there are already signs that the blowback from Target’s move is impacting the company.

‘Customer visits to Target, Walmart and Costco have slowed over the last four weeks, but they have dropped the most at Target, according to Placer.ai., which uses phone location data to track visits. The slowdown could also be attributed to weather, economic conditions and other variables…’

CNN: ‘A spiritual act of resistance’: Black consumers are boycotting corporations retreating from DEI

"...He is urging Black Americans to stop shopping at Target and to sell their stock in the retailer for Lent, a 40-day period of prayer and fasting that this year lasts from March 5 to April 17.

Bryant told CNN he hopes at least 100,000 people will register for the ”Target Fast,” described on its website as a “spiritual act of resistance.” Participants are encouraged to purchase products from Black-owned businesses during this time. ..."

I know I've been guilty of referring to what's happening right now with companies like #amazon, #meta, #target, etc. as them being cowed by #trump and bowing to his demands and upon reflection I realize how wrong that is. It excuses them, paints them as victims who are merely cowardly when they're actually willing accomplices and this is absolutely what they wanted in the first place.

Since I see a lot of folks other than me referring to all this as "bending the knee" I realized I'm not the only one who is tacitly giving companies an out. These companies aren't just complicit, they're the ones driving for the end to these improvements and they should be held just as accountable as the #republicans for what's being done.

So obviously I'm boycotting Target. But they're my go-to store. (They're like my brick-and-mortar Amazon...in more ways than one, it seems.) Figuring out where to buy toiletries and dish sponges is now especially fraught with how many companies are pulling stupid shit.
