@gwynnion@mastodon.social Americans want healthcare. Even conservatives want that. I know a few MAGA supporters who truly want universal healthcare -the kind of healthcare Europe has.
But the establishment conservative, meaning those already in a position of authority, and mostly in the pockets of pharmaceuticals and large businesses, play on words. Obamacare was not perfect, but they did not target its flaws, nor seek to improve it, and only targeted the name "Obamacare" (actually it is called, the Affordable Care Act).
But if you actually took the time to talk to a conservative, and had them describe the type of healthcare they wanted - We want the same thing. Truly we do. But many of those conservatives are strung along with some word play, and they don't dig deep past the lies they're fed.
The change Americans want is not irrational. Not at all. But there are those who certainly would like us to think it were.

There is no exaggeration when I say that the #2024election is a winner takes all election.
Everyone in power in both parties knows it.
Everyone paying attention from #corporate board rooms knows it.
Here are things that happen if #Democrats do nothing after winning.
If #Trump loses, he is going to jail. There will be multiple massive lawsuits all over the country against Trump and the #RNC.
#Trump2024 has not been paying its bills. The RNC is going to be broke. They won't be able to finance opposition any longer.
This is going to force every #Republican into panic mode. This is how we got new #political parties in the past.
Even if #Trump is somehow not in jail, his brand will be destroyed.
Meanwhile, the increasingly #Progressive #Democratic party is going to actively try to consolidate power.
If Trump wins?
He is going to engage in mass arrests and deportations. Weaponize the justice department and go after his enemies.
He will fix the 2026 #election and ensure that he has a 2/3 majority in the #house and #senate.
He will expand and overstep #executive authority and turn #POTUS into a king. The #SupremeCourt will bless him, and any notion of #SCOTUS checking the #President will be dead.
#America's experiment with #Democracy will be over. True #American #Fascism will begin.
There will be no glorious #revolution. Where are your guns? Underground network? Independent food production to fund a guerilla army? Water?
The best you can hope for is a corporate takeover from #PeterThiel. (I'm pretty sure this is his plan.)
There will not be any more #progress. Everyone will be trying to survive. No one to petition.
This is not #FAFO time.

One last thing about the Democratic National Convention's lineup of speakers. I was fascinated that some of them actually hold elective office, considering their speaking delivery.
But on the whole, I was gratified to see how deep the Democratic bench is and how many struck me as people I would be comfortable seeing in the White House.

Her experience at the #RNC is very much in line with my experience with podcasts, on social media and at meetups. Most of #MAGA is kind and part of that world for the community. Every meetup with Trump supporters is like what she describes. But also, on their podcasts and in order to get attention on social media, they act like assholes. Over time here and in conversations on my show, they are cool. It's performative and the incentives suck.
