After much waffling and mucking, I finally have a functional mail server.

Still a few more things to finish up, but it's coming along. Even with #RYOMS, it can be quite the process. I tried testing out some of the AIO solutions, but kept running into trouble with those as well. Between the book and the LinuxBabe tutorials, things have been working well, if a bit time consuming.

Oh #PeerTube, you are making me do mental somersaults as I strategize about the best way to self-host my videos.

This newbie wants to ask: how many VPS’s are too many for someone who has little coding experience and has been self-hosting for just 3 months?

Fedi friends, I’m thinking of signing up for a THIRD VPS 😱

Why?

My current setup:

1️⃣ 5€/month Debian VPS with #YunoHost, where I’m self-hosting #GoToSocial (this account), #Friendica, #Pixelfed, #Fail2Ban and #LinkStack.
2️⃣ 5€/month Ubuntu VPS where I am self-hosting my (upcoming) #Ghost blog (this will make me save a ton, compared to my current Ghost Pro plan).

Back to PeerTube: I could easily upgrade my #Debian VPS and install it there - the costs would be minimal and I would double my RAM and storage. But I am afraid of PeerTube’s consumption when it comes to bandwidth. As in: if I upload a video that for some reason becomes really popular, or if a bad actor decides to DDOS my channel, would that take down all my other self-hosted Fediverse instances? Since they are on the same VPS?

I could limit potential issues by having a dedicated VPS just for PeerTube.

What would you do?

And do you have recommendations for Europe-based VPS’s with affordable plans? (aside from Hostinger) I was thinking of #Hetzner…

My #selfhosting journey continues. Got pissed off with my router doing a particular thing I didn't want it to and just bought a new one instead of workarounds that were going to bug me forever. Went #Ubiquiti Ridiculousy easy to set up and had all my VLANs and other config done in just a few minutes.

The issue is, some of the files have little to no metadata, I have duplicates of the same album, some artist names are misspelled, etc. An it is large enough that doing this completely manually would take a while. I’m assuming (hoping) that I am not alone in this. Does anyone have a recommendation of a tool (either standalone or part of a self-hostable media app) to basically assist in cleaning this up? It doesn’t need to automate a lot of the process, but, for instance, querying metadata from an online source based on the file name / artist name, detecting misspelled artist names would already be interesting. Similar to Calibre’s “retrieve metadata” for ebooks.
