“Beware the ides of March.” ~ William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar
I went to Golden Gardens recently and got some pretty excellent crow photos. Look at all my beautiful friends.
This is an #introduction post to list some of my interests and inclinations. Here goes! I value #kindness and things that build #community. I fight for #privacy. I am fond of #dogs, #books, #information, #mapping, #GPS, #fitness things, #corvids, and lazy #genealogy. I use and promote #OpenSource software. I like the outdoors; you may find me #gardening, #cycling, and exploring. I live in #Canada. I will eat the dark chocolate before you find it.
as soon as I was not paying attention to her anymore, she rushed back and still tried to steal Mr. Crow's peanuts. (that's the pictures).
Their behavior was overall a bit weird today (see my post from this morning).
I wish I could build some sort of "shelter" on my balcony, but I seriously doubt he'd use it. In any case, he must be exhausted. I can tell, how he's not too eager to come close to me these days. I've given them extra servings of peanuts these days.
(the end for now)
You may or may not know that roughly from late August to March, carrion crows leave their territories at night to gather by the thousands (here, they do it downtown). There are many reasons to that: various generations of the same family get together and socialize, younger single crows meet their future mates, and also safety in numbers, probably. If you go downtown at dusk it is quite an impressive sight.
However...
Small #CrowUpdate
This morning at dawn. Mr. and Ms. Crow just got reunited. I'm not sure who is who here, but if the one below has their feathers raised on their head, it's not because they're trying to intimidate anyone (the usual reason they do that) but because it was -2°C and they were very cold.
So, yes, I said "reunited" because now I'm certain of what I have been suspecting for a while. Mr. Crow doesn't roost with other crows anymore.
Let me explain.
Morning all. Keep calm everyone, it’s nearly the weekend. xx
