A magical summer night surprise
On the night of August 12th, the maximum of the Perseid meteor shower, I spontaneously went outside to catch some shooting stars. Little did I know, the night would hold an even more magical surprise.
It was a clear night, and the Perseid meteors didn’

Here are the all night track-stacks from our 4 #GMN #MeteorCameras in Oxfordshire overnight 12th/13th August 2024. You can clearly see the #Perseids radiant on UK002F. We had 3,360 matched events across the #UKMeteorNetwork that night! #Perseids2024 #MeteorShower #Meteors
I was trying to catch some Perseids, but when I woke up and checked my camera there was a surprise waiting for me
Yesterdays watching and photographing the Perseids together with the kids.

"Perseid Meteors over Stonehenge" is #NASA #astronomy pic of the day @APoD (mirror bot) by Josh Dury - Wide angle lens made appearance of curved paths. Each was actually a straight line. Sure, it's not always convenient to live in a remote village and I'm no fan of the Summer heat, but getting to walk for less than five minutes to lie down on the street (!) to watch #Perseids in the fields with my family, with bats overhead and a magnificent linden tree for scale... Life doesn't get better than this, does it?
We saw about 15 in total in one hour. It wasn't the announced maximum yet, but clouds came drifting in and I feel satisfied.
#Aurora visible in Central Poland, live on AstroLife YouTube stream, mixing w/ #Perseids! https://www.youtube.com/live/3LyGQ7_JSgE
Viewing Tips:
The Perseids are best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere during the pre-dawn hours, though at times it is possible to view meteors from this shower as early as 10 p.m.

Perseid Meteor and the Milky Way
Near Cygnus, this was taken around 1:10am the morning of August 12 from Liberty Hill, Texas.. This was one of the brighter fireballs I saw between 12am and 3am. My count was around 30 an hour.
Nikon D750, Sigma 12-24mm, 25 seconds, F4.8, ISO6400.
I didn't try to travel for #Perseids meteor shower viewing because of fire smoke east and cirrus overcast west. But even under city lights and with a break in the clouds, I still managed to get a picture of one meteor and saw another from my backyard. #astronomy

It’s my birthday! One of my big life wishes is to once upon a time see the actual milky way with my own eyes. Because I’m on a “it’s OK to not have your life together” year I didn’t make work out of planning a trip to a dark zone yet, but me and my wife walked out of rhe city for a little bit and we were able to see a few falling stars #perseids
