Photo of a seemingly overgrown wild scenery. Lots of bushes and trees in various sizes, all bare under a brittle cool winter sun that barely manages to bring light down to the ground. Several spots are overgrown with dark ivy. In front is a little area with cobblestones, leading towards a path that vanishes to the right. In between everything, several large stone crosses stand on hidden graves, peeking through.

I followed the winding path between the graves. The path lies in deep shadow to the side of big bushes and the graves aren't visible under their ages old ivy cover, almost like hills. The trees on the right are standing in the sun. They're overgrown with ivy, almost from the roots to the top, giving the appearance of leaves. In the back, the sun shines down onto the path and a few barely visible gravestones.

An evergreen tree whose lowest branches have been cut off forms an almost cave like protective ceiling for a path that ends here among some barely visible graves. The light is warmer, because behind the tree the sun breaks through and illuminates bushes that appear almost like a backwall to the cave. It's clear the upper part of the evergreen tree is also lit. It feels like a secure spot under the tree where a little clearing indicates the end of the path. There's a little bird house dangling from the side of the tree trunk.

Close-up of a grave decoration. It's made from clay and forms a ball, maybe the sice of a smaller melon, and on top sit two turtle doves, beak to beak, looking at each other lovingly. They sit among ivy, dry leaves and right next to a tree trunk where more ivy has started to climb up. The doves sit in weak sunshine, only indicated by a barely visible shadow across them from some grass. The background is blurred green lying in sunshine.

Last Spring I came across a cat colony at a cemetery here in Porto. Even though it appeared the cats were being fed, they looked pretty gnarly. So I took it upon myself to feed them on a regular basis. Since a few months, a non profit organisation took over, also providing medical assistance to the cats. Unfortunately a couple of cats passed away, but others are thriving and some even got adopted! I still visit the colony to give them some extra treats, scratches and belly rubs, and stay in touch with the organisation when needed.

The #cemetery in #Amlwch has a #gravestone in the form of a #lighthouse. It is for Thomas Cunningham, who had worked on a lighthouse in Shanghai for 30 years. He was originally from Liverpool. It is very detailed, even with an iron ladder up the side to the doorway.
