Killing Me Softly With His Song

Back to the early days of Ted Tocks Covers…
On February 24, 1973 Roberta Flack began a five-week run at #1 on the U.S. singles charts. On the very same day 52 years later she died peacefully at home following several years of battling ALS.
“Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song”

Will definitely have to give my tribute this week to #RobertaFlack at #kareoke Been hearing her my whole life, such a beautiful voice.
Thank you, Roberta.
Grammy winning singer Roberta Flack has died at 88. Flack was diagnosed with ALS in November 2022. Her hits 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' and 'Killing Me Softly With His Song' won Record of The Year in 1973 and 1974, respectively.
And my favorite of her collabs with #DonnyHathaway:

#RobertaFlack is one of the absolute GOATs, not only for her own stuff, but also her absolutely LEGENDARY work with #DonnyHathaway.
This is *probably* my favorite Flack performance, which is actually a #StevieWonder tune:

The incomparable Roberta Flack, who made Grammy history by winning Record of the Year in consecutive years with "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" (1973) and "Killing Me Softly With His Song" (1974) has died at age 88. Here's @THR's tribute to Flack, who told NPR's Ann Powers in 2020: “I always say that ‘love is a song’ — meaning that music reaches beyond age, race, nationality and religion to touch our hearts.”
#RobertaFlack is now trending across Mastodon
One of the best album covers, for an excellent album showing her gift for interpretation, by one of the best artists. She and Donnie in the pantheon together once again. #RobertaFlack #music
Roberta Flack, singer of 'Killing Me Softly,' has died. She was 88.
She got her start when she was 15 years old, winning a music scholarship to Howard University
Upon graduating, Flack taught at schools in North Carolina and Washington, D.C., and began performing in clubs, both as a pianist for other vocalists and as a singer herself.
"My main interest is in telling my story through a song — whether mine or someone else's," Flack told NPR's Ann Powers in 2020. "Tell the truth with clarity and honesty so that the listener can feel their story."
Flack was diagnosed with ALS in 2022 and retired from performing.

Isn’t It a Pity
Remembering George Harrison!
“Some things take so long
But how do I explain
When not too many people
Can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity”

Johnny Cash brings something deeper and more agonised to one of the best-ever love songs, 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face', written by the legendary Ewan MacColl for his lover Peggy Seeger, and made memorable by the equally wonderful Roberta Flack.
