Asta<p>Very tiny handstitching on very tiny trousers! I believe this invisible method is called a ladder stitch? It's my favourite one, very satisfying.</p><p>I've actually learned to like hand sewing as of late, mostly because I never have to unpick that. 😌</p><p><a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/slowfashion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>slowfashion</span></a> <a href="https://mementomori.social/tags/ompelu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ompelu</span></a></p>
kimu<p>This is a really simple sewing project - a rectangle with buttonholes for hanging. Fairly tedious though, so I’ve been putting off sewing it for a while. The whole purpose for this (besides looking cool) is an issue with our kitchen lights when we sit at the dining room table. Happy to have the piece of fabric that we tacked up there several years ago down 😂 <a href="https://wandering.shop/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a></p>

Gwen Fisher<p>Hitomezashi sashiko cuts the surface into a tiling that can always be colored with exactly two colors so that the two colors never touch. My first round of stitches are large, so I filled in half of the space with tiny cross stitches in navy blue. This highlights the two-coloring of the tiling. (Yes, there’s a mistake in the geometry, but it’s working perfectly as a patch.) The fabric for the patch is a vintage piece of woven silk, from a collection of a seller’s samples, and I used the pattern woven into the silk as the grid for my stitches. This is now a patch on a pair of old bluejeans to give them new life. <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/mathart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mathart</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/visiblemending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>visiblemending</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a></p>

Baroque Mongoose<p>I caved last night and joined the Cashmerette Club, given that they have a very good offer on it at the moment. If you sew and you have curves, it is worth joining... if you can put up with PDF patterns, that is. I've never used them before, but I can't print them at home and I suspected they might be a false economy because I'd have to pay to get them printed at a copy shop.</p><p>Well, actually, it's not that bad. I picked up six free patterns and one that I paid for (total £18), and had four of them printed (total about £32 including P&amp;P)... so it probably comes to about the same. Except you get better paper!</p><p><a href="https://vmst.io/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a></p>

trashloveA few years ago, I made this hat which is still one of my favourite makes. The pattern is self drafted and very simple, basically it's just two circles and a long rectangle.<br> <br> I used three layers: smooth viscose/cotton lace on top of a cotton fabric which I stabilized with iron-on fusible interfacing. The hat is also lined with a light cotton fabric, so it’s hand washable.<br> <br> All the materials (except interfacing) are recycled from thrifted clothes, like a skirt lining that I had removed and a lace top that was too short.<br> <br> To style the hat in different ways, I just tie silk chiffon scarves around it and clip or pin fabric flowers, barrettes or brooches to it.<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sewing?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sewing</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/diy?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#diy</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/upcycling?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#upcycling</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/hats?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#hats</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/lace?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#lace</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/recycling?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#recycling</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/sustainablefashion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#sustainablefashion</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/slowfashion?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#slowfashion</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/handmade?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#handmade</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/disabledartist?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#disabledartist</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/queerartist?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#queerartist</a>

A few months ago, I made this bag as a X-mas present for a family member.

The lush green cotton velvet is reclaimed from a dumpster dived throw pillow case. For the lining, I used black cotton I had lying around.

I added a thrifted necklace from wooden beads and a cute little heart charm.

Continued thread

next i pressed iron-on interfacing (lightweight cotton) to the back of the entire patchwork top to give it strength, sewed patches onto the weaker squares, added a border to make it bigger, made some flower appliqués to inject more colour, and lastly finished it off with bias binding.

the project was rather challenging, huge respect to quilters! now i just love how it brightens up the room, i hope we’ll get to enjoy it for many years to come :) 🌸

finally finished mending this patchwork blankie since starting more than a year ago! 🌸💗

it was originally peachy pink but had faded over the decades. back then i had chosen the fabric and arranged the placement, and my mum kindly sewed it together.
