next i pressed iron-on interfacing (lightweight cotton) to the back of the entire patchwork top to give it strength, sewed patches onto the weaker squares, added a border to make it bigger, made some flower appliqués to inject more colour, and lastly finished it off with bias binding.

the project was rather challenging, huge respect to quilters! now i just love how it brightens up the room, i hope we’ll get to enjoy it for many years to come :) 🌸

finally finished mending this patchwork blankie since starting more than a year ago! 🌸💗

it was originally peachy pink but had faded over the decades. back then i had chosen the fabric and arranged the placement, and my mum kindly sewed it together.

I’ve been hanging onto a delicate patchwork silk skirt for a long time. I fell in love with it on a holiday in Wexford about twenty years ago but it was too long or I was too short and I couldn’t figure out a way to grow taller or to alter its length and retain its floaty shape. I was constantly stepping on it. It’s hopelessly fragile and impossible to wear. But I love and need it in my life somehow, so….now my silk skirt is a field in a wooden hoop.

The more I worked on the #DreamsOfAmarna, the more those dreams changed.. Rather than gold and glamour, I found myself drawn to the less showy finds, stone and faience, and to the people responsible for making them, or responsible for excavating them, the archaeologists, the Guftis, the local labourers and the basket children. #LoadingTheFelucca was one of the pieces made in their honour.
