Tesla Cybertruck getting hate after one spotted blocking streetcar in Toronto
It's been a bad week for Tesla Cybertrucks in Canada. After a video circulated of a Cybertruck stuck in the snow in Montreal, a Toronto transit rider reported that one of the electric trucks blocked a streetcar.Pictures posted to the Toronto Reddit community show a Cybertruck park...

Would you give up your parking for a lower rent?

"When given the choice between stable housing and very limited mobility versus unstable or delayed housing but near-unlimited mobility, some low-income families will opt for the latter just to keep their cars. Or they’ll give them up begrudgingly or try to sneakily own a car and park it somewhere on the street. This isn’t in a rural fringe; it is East Oakland. A dense, urban suburb"

Some on Sarasota's Downtown Improvement District question removal of Main Street parking

Same article I've seen a zillion times, but I liked that that they discussed how many spots there were, as well as how many they were going to get rid of. It would have been even better if the headline was, "Business owners feel that 2000 downtown parking spots aren't enough, object to losing 100 of them to make area pedestrian-friendly".

Follow the money:

When car parking operators see the bulk of their profits stemming from infringement fines (as they are private companies these are actually contracted costs for implied agreements entered into when you park your car), with the highest at 90% or profits via such 'fines' (Smart Parking), you know the business is not the provision of parking but rather the intent to trick drivers into breaking an implied contract.... yet more sharp corporate practice.

Today we met Paul, an 88-year-old from Saint Paul, #Minnesota. Yes, he bikes at home in MN as well as when visiting Monterey. For more examples of #perennials aka #elders who help change misperceptions about #aging, see bikemonterey.org/perennials-bi.

Others we paused to chat with on our Jan 31 ride into town: Bo of the #Salinas Valley’s Schoch Family Farm (at Del Monte Center farmer’s market bikemonterey.org/monterey-coun); Isabel Orejel (at First Presbyterian #Church, Monterey bikemonterey.org/rest-stop-tip); Mikaela Heimer (at Whole #Dog Radiance on Casa Verde, the sister of Dani bikemonterey.org/youth-who-bik, both #sisters #bike); Erios (at Portola #Hotel’s #valet station bikemonterey.org/tips-for-tour); staff of Adventures by the Sea near Custom House Plaza (bikemonterey.org/tips-for-tour); Neal, a City of #Monterey #Parking Enforcement Officer patrolling Garden Rd (we were both appreciating the #rain beginning to fall bikemonterey.org/rainy-weather).

The art of persuasion: This opinion article argues it’s a problem for Democrats, but it’s also urbanism’s problem. How do you persuade people to put their city’s interests ahead of their own? In this case, it’s about building more #housing, but it could be about other good ideas, like shared use of streets and less #parking. Being right is not enough. For change, you must also convince others. nytimes.com/2024/11/30/opinion
